Yamhill-Carlton striving for the Playoffs in 2019

Written by:

YC is a rising stock in the state, and everyone knows it.

First winning season in 11 years, a young and charismatic head coach, school and community excitement at levels not seen in decades, and a state playoff appearance (had the OSAA not botched its own playoff slotting).

We interviewed Coach Mossholder earlier this month, and he seemed excited for this upcoming season as they return a litany of starters including Trey Richmond, Mason Daily, Jacob Preston, and Erick Potter. The two players Coach Mossholder seemed most excited for is a three-year starter at QB Jaime Garcia, an electric playmaker that can change the game with his arm and his legs.

Mossholder said, “The returning players that will help push for a playoff spot this season will be three-year returner Jaime Garcia at QB who would be entering his third year as the starter and was second team all-league last year. He is a dynamic athlete who placed at state in track and is our fastest athlete. Other key contributors will be Mikel Rivas who received votes for POY on defense last year as a sophomore at outside linebacker, Trey Richmond who was a first-team DE as a sophomore, and a trio of interesting running back prospects in junior Mason Daily, sophomore Jacob Preston, and Freshman Erik Potter. Lastly, Jakob Jarvis will be a third-year starter on both sides of the football at DB and WR”.

Mossholder also added,” We return all 5 starting O linemen anchored by seniors Sam Dixon, Dustin Talbot, and Dylan McInnis. So yes, this team is anchored by a lot of players who have a lot of varsity experience and have worked really hard in the weight room and have done well in other sports. The team is highly motivated after last year’s playoff mishap and want to put together a true playoff run this year.”

”Personally, I think it’s been gratifying to watch a team that didn’t win a game the year prior to me coming to YC grow into a team that is a true playoff contender that has to be taken seriously week in and week out.”

Buy your YC stock now, it’s about to boom.

Jamie Garcia 12 (QB/DB), Trey Richmond 11 (TE/DL), Mason Daily 11 (OL/LB), Jacob Preston 10 (RB/LB), Errick Porter 9 (RB), Jakob Jarvis 12 (WR/DB), Mikal Rivas 11 (WR/LB), Sam Dixon 12 (OL/DL), Dustin Talbot 12 (OL/DL) and Dylan McInnis 12 (OL/DL)

Thanks sincerely for the coverage, teams below 4A really don’t get enough coverage. Just wanted to correct the misspelling for YC, it’s Erik Potter.
