Burns Football

Key Losses- Brennan Till C, Preston Carter OG, Luke Bailey OT, Cade Maupin RB, Josh Reagle RB, Zane Taylor WR.

In 2018 Burns had a great year, they surprised us and beat Vale late in the season to claim the league title. Burns was loaded with talent last season, and they were only going to lose six seniors due to graduation. However, in 2019 they have a lot of question marks and we have our concerns about this team.

The first thing that concerned us when we talked to Burns student-athletes at the 3a Basketball State Tournament in Coos Bay was that they told us a lot of players were quitting in 2019 and they did not know how the year ahead would go because of it. Another concerning thing is one of us happened to have a business trip that landed us in Burns, and we watched practice in late July, They looked really sloppy and didn’t look motivated or even want to be at practice. This is concerning because Burns should realistically be a top 10 football team in 2019 if they return all the players from the year prior.

We don’t know who will be returning for this Burns team in 2019 so we probably will be really far off with our predictions but we are guessing they go 6-3 in 2019, winning the first 6 games before losing the last 3 to end the season.

Vale Football

Key Losses- Tanner Hamilton WR/DB, Trevor Romans WR/LB, Clay Siddoway WR/LB, Chelly Lopez OL/DL, Breyden Lande OL/DL, Jake Aldred OL/DL, Kade Haueter TE/LB.

Key Returners-Matt Mcbride RB/LB, Colton Kesey QB/DB, Keegan Mizuta RB/LB, Jacob Graviet OL/DL, Payton Kelson OL/DE, Jeremiah  Daughterty OL/DL, Dallin Eddy TE/LB, TJ Speelman WR/DB, Jason Ponce WR/DB.

In 2018 Vale went 7-5 but they did reach the Semifinals losing to the eventual champ Rainier 40-13. The record might not look very good, but Vale was playing very good Idaho teams that ease them into league play each year. In 2018 Vale was really good, early on we had no idea how good they were because they were only playing Idaho teams but when they upset Clatskanie we knew they were the real deal and a top 5 team in 2018.

Vale has great coaches and a long tradition of winning Championships, in 2019 we feel Vale is one of the teams to beat. The Vikings have a great QB in Colton Kesey and a great RB in Keegan Mizuta. Also, they will return a stout defensive front that will allow the linebackers to fill and make plays on defense. In 2019 we think Vale will go 6-3 in the regular season based on how tough they’re regular-season schedule is. However, they will be one of the best teams in 3a football in 2019 as they return a large portion of the starters that made Vale great last season. When we release the top 10 rankings for 3A football most people will be surprised at how high we rank this team.
